Shaoyi has a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts with a concentration on Visual Arts (B.FA), and a master’s degree in Architecture (M.Arch), both from the University of British Columbia. Prior to joining Peter Rose Architecture and Interiors, Shaoyi has completed several small-scale projects as a student to test his understanding of design, ranging from graphic design to garden design. During his academic studies, Shaoyi has won a few awards, including a second place prize in the Fast+Epp architecture competition in 2013.

Born and raised in China, Shaoyi moved to Canada at the age of 17 with his family. Thanks to his oriental background and western education, Shaoyi is privileged to comprehend the cultures and values of both worlds, and is able to appreciate the beauty and complexity of them. With great passion and respect for different cultures, Shaoyi is an advocate of critical regionalism and believes that architecture should be a reflection of context and identity. As a detail-oriented person, he strives to deliver every aspect of a project with thoughts and precision, as well as a touch of Zen.
